Slavica
Janešlieva (1973, Skopje, SFR Yugoslavia) is a visual
artist with a characteristic multimedia and inermedial expression. Her art is an amalgam of the artist’s
intimacy, her personal archive, domestic narratives: in other words, her entire
micro cosmos. However, the analogy and contextualization of her work do not
remain solely within the realm of her intimacy; rather they become a concept
that transcends into the societal milieu, addressing socio-political aspects,
history, philosophy, metaphysics.
Janešlieva
specialized in graphic art/printmaking, but her recognizable artistic
expression and talent for visual narration runs the gamut: original print, object, art-installation, drawing,
photography, video, book art, etc. Her art has been honored by numerous juried
and curated national and international exhibitions all over the world (30 solo
exhibitions and over 300 group exhibitions). She is the recipient of numerous
international and national awards and honors.
She was the national representative at the
60. Venice Art Biennale in 2024. Her works have been acquired by
prestigious institutional art collections in RN Macedonia, USA, Finland.
She lives
and works in Skopje. She is a full-time Professor at the Department of
Printmaking and Transmedia Practices, Faculty of Fine Arts, Ss. Cyril and
Methodius University (UKIM). In February 2023, she was appointed Dean of the
Faculty of Fine Arts, UKIM.
